Fort Augustus-Glenmoriston Business Initiative
The Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Business Initiative (FAGBI) was formed in 2000 with just half a dozen members. Its primary function is to promote all the local businesses, amenities and attractions in our area of Scotland. FAGBI was initially set up with Grants from Highland Council and Inverness and Nairn Enterprise (INE) which restricted our recruitment area to Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston. However, since 2005, FAGBI, through the careful structuring of subscriptions, has become totally independent and self-financing. We now have around 111 Members including hotels, bed and breakfasts, the local garage, craft and gift shops, bars and restaurants, the local tourist information centre and local tradesmen. FAGBI offers high quality, targeted advertising for all types of businesses which is affordable.
The 2 new Highland Holiday Planner brochures for the Fort Augustus and Invermoriston / Invergarry Districts are widely distributed throughout the country. Our new website (www.fortaugustus.org) provides highly focused marketing for the many different types of local businesses. If potential visitors use a Google Search to research a visit to Fort Augustus, Invermoriston, Glenmoriston or Invergarry, they will find FAGBI’s Website and therefore local businesses quickly and easily.
As FAGBI is completely self-financing, we now recruit members from outside of the Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston area. FAGBI has therefore extended its coverage to include Invergarry and South Laggan. This expansion involved the creation of a new additional brochure for the Invermoriston and Invergarry Districts to complement a separate new brochure for Fort Augustus. These new brochures replaced the previous Highland Holiday Planner in 2009.
FAGBI’s new found financial freedom has put us in a strong position to take on a number of different projects. Our New Website www.fortaugustus.org provides more information about the locality to encourage Tourists to visit the area to complement the advertising of local businesses. FAGBI has printed The Highland Council Walks’ Leaflets for Fort Augustus and Invermoriston and has purchased 4 boxes of The Fort Augustus Preservation Trust’s (FAPT’s) Heritage Trail Leaflets for the use of our Members in their Establishments. These 3 brochures can be obtained by FAGBI Members at The Service Point in Fort Augustus, the Redburn Café in Glenmoriston and at The Glengarry Community Hall. We are also investigating other forms of advertising and have made a start by placing an advertisement in The Coach Drivers’ Yearbook, 2009.
It is particularly important for FAGBI to be pro-active in the present financial climate. The new 2009 Highland Holiday Planner Brochures for Fort Augustus and Invermoriston / Invergarry Districts have been available to Members since Easter. This was the first time in FAGBI’s History that these brochures were ready by Easter. We plan to produce a new “Paths Around” Brochure for Invergarry District to complement the existing “Paths Around” Fort Augustus and Invermoriston Brochures.
